On Repeat {Oldies}

1. Alanis Morissette: Jagged Little Pill - I love the chick power in these songs.  She rocks out and calls guys out on the sh**t they do.  I think this is a super empowering album!
2. Cat Stevens: "Moonshadow" - this song always makes me think of my dad.  When I was little he used to bring his guitar into my room and play "Moonshadow" right before I fell asleep.  I really love this song because of the memories it brings up.
3. Led Zeppelin: "Going to California" - going on a roadtrip.  This is what the song makes me dream of.  I want to be the blonde haired girl going to California, not necessarily with a broken heart or on a big jet plane but just going.  All of the grey weather here is making California look especially appealing.
4. Patti Smith: "Because the Night" - Listening to this song makes me think of some '80s movie with girls dancing in their underwear and singing into hair brushes!

What are some of your favourite oldies??

Cinnamon Buns

Tonight, as Brittney and I were sitting in my room with our heads in our books we decided that we needed sugar... Well I did.  We sat there contemplating our options and, although it was a tough call between chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon buns, the cinnamon buns won.

The recipe we used is one passed down from my grandmother... JOKES.  We went to Safeway, bought Pillsbury Cinnamon rolls, cracked 'em open, put them in the oven and studied until the glorious timer went alerted us that our treats were ready.

After we drizzled the delectable icing over the tops we inhaled our creations.  Although there were pictures of the devouring process, they were far too beautiful for the world to see.

Hope your Tuesday night has been as yummy as mine!

Birthday Weekend

This weekend I went home to celebrate my dad's birthday!  Although it was a quick visit it was nice to see everyone!  We had a turkey dinner complete with mashed potatoes, kale, broccoli and roasted vegetables.  Eating a full meal was a very nice part of being home..
I ended the weekend shopping with my sister and studying for my first midterm of the semester.
Hope you had a good weekend too!

This weekend I'm at home! So I can't be on here otherwise I won't be "all there" when I'm at home!
Hope your weekend is fabulous and fun!

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is my dad's birthday!  He is the best dad in the whole wide world!
He's hilarious, he's handy, he's helpful, he's a good cook, he's a great buddy to watch movies with, he loves his friends and he loves his family.
Here's to my dad, a super dude who I love sooooo much!

On Repeat

1) The Civil Wars - Barton Hallow: This entire album is pretty much always playing while I study.  I love how chill they are and how they write such pretty words to create little movies or stories in your head.
2) Tegan & Sara - "Closer": I love how full this song is.  When you listen to it with headphones on the music completely fills your head.  (maybe that's just the volume I have it at...)   It's so upbeat and such a great driving song.
3) The Killers - "Runaways": This song has such a great description of detail that you really feel like you could be living in the story.  I like songs that really allow you to watch a music video in your mind!
4) Ellie Goulding - "Anything Could Happen": This song just makes me smile from the moment it comes in.  I was so excited when I found this gem but when I went and told all my friends about it they had already heard it on X-Factor, guess I'm just behind the times...

What do YOU have on repeat?

Recently I've been having the "wanties" (wanting lots of things that I don't really need).  I am trying to be happy with all of the wonderful things I have, live in the moment and be excited about all the great things that will happen in the future!

Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Cadboro Bay

This beach is literally a two minute walk from my house and the past couple of days have been perfectly overcast.  In my opinion, overcast days are the best days to take pictures.  They turn out really well with good lighting and few shadows.
Happy Friday everyone!

favourite necklace

For Christmas my mom gave me the most amazing necklace.  I am pretty picky when it comes to jewelry but my mom seriously nailed it with this piece.  On a chunky, vintage-looking chain hangs a wire wrapped stone with a bell shaped pendant on the end.  These three things alone would have been awesome BUT it gets better.  The bell shaped pendant opens at the top and lets you put secret messages or special little treasures!  I think it's the best creation and so funky looking!

Still Sick

It's been another one of those congested, sore-throat, don't really wanna get out of bed kind of days.  Yesterday I went out and stocked up on "get better asap" supplies.  I've found that being away from home is especially tough when you're sick because there is no one to take care of you!  I love having my mumma around to make me soup and give me hugs when I'm not feeling well.  Guess a cozy duvet and squishy pillows and extra strength night time meds will have to do!
Here is my list of "get better asap" supplies
  1. Chicken noodle soup (duh)
  2. Saltine crackers
  3. Soda water
  4. Day/Night cold medication
  5. Apples
  6. Grape juice*
*I read in a pinterest article that grape juice can be very good at preventing the stomach flu.  In the past couple of days a number of my friends have been out with the flu so I thought I would give grape juice a try!

Sick Day

Today I woke up with a sore throat and the sniffles.  Colds and flus are going around right now so after my morning class I came home, made a hot cup of Zen tea and cozied up in bed!

It's a beautiful day here in Victoria!  Go do something in the sun!

Hello!

Hi!  I'm Emily.  I'm a UVic student currently doing general studies (psychology, sociology, technology and a couple other -ology's) but don't really know what I want to do in life.  I am planning on finishing this year but not returning in the fall.  Instead, I plan on working over the summer then setting out to see the world!  More specifically, Europe!  I want this blog to be a place of inspiration and hopefully one day, a thing I can look back at and remember some of my favourite times.  Thanks for reading!
